My interpretation of Voice: The spirit which underlies our words. It is the thumbprint of our soul. It is the essence of our being. It is who we are.
I find myself looking down a fork in the road. One path leads to a more focused voice. The other, my present day buckshot approach. Some folks write in comfort without focus. There’s nothing wrong with that. For me however, I need to focus. To travel this path means to draw a bead on who I am and of what value I can bring to others.
The journey for focus however, cannot be beamed from a satellite to my cell phone. I had contemplated taking down my site and moving my camp deep into the recesses of the cave. But withdrawing from community robs me of the guidance of feedback. I think that by partaking in community, one is offered the opportunity of example and ideas as well. It is certainly the reason that I knocked on Troy’s door and asked if I could hang out here again. Thanks Troy!
For now I am working on book reviews and keeping an open eye for business change and innovation. For those interested, Rosa Say gave me the heads up on this Tom Ehrenfeld essay on voice.

Dave, take comfort in the fact that writing this post helped you capture where you are in this moment, and from this moment your voice comes forward.
I appreciate your openness in admitting that you don’t have all the “answers” or focus nailed down yet. The beauty of reading your post is that you are allowing us to peek over your shoulder, while you are IN process. We all learn from that. So keep writing and stay connected.
Dave - You are a man after my own spirit - you nailed it when you connected one’s voice with one’s inner essence.
Writing helps many of us find our voice - that part of us that is most real. While searching for your focus, take comfort from the fact that you can bring your voice into the present and describe this experience. It allows the rest of us to peek over your shoulder and learn too.
Keep writing.
