As I sit before the computer, waiting to start my morning walk on the terrace, a new day is unfolding. A bunch of birds are twittering in the backyard, devotional music is streaming in from the other room, the CPU is droning, my fingers pressing against the keyboard. Life happening—automatically, marvelously.
That’s exactly how entire lifetimes unfold—within this moment. It’s always “nowâ€â€”a refreshing presence where the past and the future melt away, leaving a free, open, and natural space. As I see the beauty of this, life seems so burden-free, happening on its own accord. Every moment is a mystery and yet so fresh and sparkling.
Living in the now is the only way to be. For where are the horrors of the past and the uncertainties of the future, except in our heads? Are they anywhere outside our imaginings in this present moment? The more I realize this, the looser the grip of past and future becomes on me.
There’s great wisdom in the words of “Que sera, sera.†Indeed, whatever has to happen undoubtedly will, no matter if we resist it fervently or accept it gently. All the stories that have to appear on this movie screen called Life will.
It’s a joy to be just a spectator.
