In an article in the National Solar Observatory, Ruth A. Kneale reported a tsunami-like shock wave across the visible face of the Sun. The wave, known as a Moreton wave, followed a major solar flare and is thought to have destroyed two filaments of cool gas at opposite sides of the solar hemisphere.
Filaments, regions [...]
My conscience has been bothering me that my opportunity to post at 100 Bloggers has been, well, largely ignored. Therefore, I’ve made an end-of-year resolution to make a regular contribution with a regular format.
The plan is to post interesting, non-mainstream news several times a week. No war talk, no activist platforms, nothing to jar your [...]
Some words get so worn by use they turn into buzz words and then into something we’d rather not hear ever again. I really hope ‘community’ doesn’t become one of them because it’s the best word we have to convey the feeling of the camaraderie that swirls around bloggers.
Its been called the blogosphere, blogtown, blogville, [...]
Although it seemed like a done deal, Peter Jackson is not going forth to direct The Hobbit. Apparently the royalty dispute that is unresolved has lead to the decision to have him no longer direct the new effort. Purely a business deal. According to his mail New Line is currently looking for [...]
It’s been a grueling election season for me.
I’ve worked countless hours, writing campaign materials, letters to the editor, and Tuesday, working the polls. All in an effort to elect a good man, but a political neophyte. Coming from nowhere, he worked seven days a week, 18 hour days. He had nearly 100 volunteers on [...]
My state representative’s one piece of successful legislation names the chanterelle “Missouri’s Official State Mushroom.”
By all that is holy, how can that be? Anyone with any sense knows if Missouri has a mushroom, it’s this one:

I’ve lived in Missouri my entire life, majored in horticulture at one point, and still, I [...]
While looking for some music to write change management assessments by, I wandered over to the Internet Archive and stumbled across a live performance by the ReBirth Brass Band. I defy you to listen to more than two songs while sitting completely still! Here’s a phrase I never thought I’d type - hot tuba [...]
And now for something completely different. Your captions please…

Thanks to Peter Dawson for the link and for introducing me to Adam Frucci. BTW, I found Peter via Felix Gerena’s blogroll. I love blogrolls!

The posting by Steve Garfield today at Off on a Tangent quotes from a Newsweek article that states the work behind the few minutes of ze frank’s show takes SIX hours to produce daily. I can believe it. Although I admit, in the viewing that I had done before I started doing my own podcast (and [...]

Now that the Heat of Summer Carnival is behind us, this might be something worthwhile for 100Bloggers to sink their proverbial teeth into. After all we are connecting [...]
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Come One Come All
It’s time to visit the Summer Carnival!
With so much heat baking most of the northern hemisphere, Phil, Pet, and I decided to cool things down a bit . Blog Carnivals are a wonderful treat here on 100Bloggers, and this one will be no different, even though there are [...]
People with eating disorders (especially girls) have a biased perception of their body. They feel fat and unfit and no feedback (from a mirror, from parents, or from friends) seems able to shake the perception that there is something wrong with their body. Their body needs to be controlled, shaped and disciplined.
At the same [...]
I watched Office Space, one of my favorite movies, again the other day. If you aren’t familiar with the movie, it’s about a dysfunctional office where the managers are clueless, and the employees are frustrated and demotivated. Think Dilbert with a plot and a few famous actors.
In addition to being spit-milk-through-your-nose funny, Office [...]
I am reading this fabulous book called Cracking Creativity. It talks, among other things, about Albert Einstein’s creative process. I saw this quote today and it got me thinking:
“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
-Albert Einstein
That is the whole beauty of linear and creative thinking. Most [...]
